I am delighted to have Austin Armstrong here on this podcast. Hopefully, it’s his first time on the show, and I’m glad he could come here and drop diamonds. In this podcast edition, we discussed the top tips for TikTok marketing.

So my name’s Austin Armstrong, I run a full-service digital marketing agency called Socialty Pro. We specialize in organic Tech-Talk marketing and search engine optimization. I got started on TikTok about two and a half, four or so years ago at this point. So I got in fairly early and placed that bet and it certainly paid off. I currently have about 330k followers on there, and we’re managing about 10 TikTok accounts for various businesses in various industries. So that’s my little elevator pitch for you.

Well, what made you decide to go into TikTok?

Yeah, I mean it, it was the fastest growing platform ever and still is so rapid growth. I’m a big Gary V(aynerchuk) fan. So I sort of listened to everything and he was like, shoving it down our throats.

“You’ve got to get on this app. You got to get on his app.”

So I downloaded it and floundered for a couple months. And just, to be open with you and the audience listening right now, my company was still a part-time side hustle at the time. I was a full-time employee at a drug and alcohol treatment center handling all of their digital marketing. And I was actually let go from my job.

So as I mentioned earlier, it’s the fastest growing social media platform of all time. It is the highest free organic reach of any platform right now. And it is totally unsaturated in every industry, every niche, and every market. So while Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, you name it have been around for more than a decade at this point, TikTok is still in its infancy. The last time I looked at the stats, there are over 130 million monthly active users in the United States alone. Well over 1 billion active users worldwide. Wow. And so few actual businesses are leveraging this tool right now. They’re lurking on the platform they’re watching, but they’re not eating. And that is the opportunity.

Okay. Okay. I love it. I love it. I just want to take a step back and just want to ensure that folks in the midst, the fact that you were a marketer to begin with, you were listening to another marketer for those. What are your tips or advice or suggestions even you would give someone if they wanted to start marketing on TikTok?

Austin Armstrong
Yeah. So I’m gonna, I’ll give you a bunch of tips here. So the, the most important thing of, of not even just TikTok, but in good marketing in general is to really understand who you’re trying to reach. So clearly defining your buyer, persona your, your, your target buyer, whatever you want to call it, outline their age range, their interests, their hobbies, their emotional needs and desires, and their pain points.

But I like to have a three-funnel approach to the content as well. So a top broad level, and I’m going to give you an example of how I do this personally, but then, at the broadest level, what is content that would reach the most amount of people, viral potential content, but would still insinuate that they would be your target audience.
